It is reported that Stanley Palace is the most haunted house in Chester! Built in 1591, also known as Derby House, it now a grade II listed building which also stands on the site previously thought to be occupied by a Dominican Friary. The man who owned and built the original building was Peter Warburton who was a lawyer who went on to have a variety of other positions in his life such as a sergeant-at-law, a judge and a member of parliament to name a few.

Stanley Palace has had its share of visitors and many have told afterwards of the strange and chilling presence they felt whilst visiting. Many have reported hearing children’s giggles, and soft moans and murmurs.

The figure of a lady dressed in 17th Century clothing has on a number of occasions been seen entering the Queen Anne Room, footsteps have been heard in the gallery and strange smells filling the air at any time of the day.

We will search for the Monks that once dwelled on this site and we may catch a glimpse of a Roman soldier as he wanders between the two worlds, he’s been seen many times before.
